Off to The Glass Craft and Bead Expo

For the first time in 15 year, we won’t be teaching at the trade show.  Since we can’t clone us we decided to work at the Wissmach Booth instead. We have planned several Demonstrations through out the Exhibition as well as an on stage Demo/Lecture.  Stop by at the Wissmach booth – you can’t miss it, it is right across from the entrance.

Reverse Fusing with Kaiser-Lee Board and Papyrus Paper as a Design Element
Is Ideal to Bring Out the Beautiful Shine of Wissmach Luminescent Glass!

Reverse Kaiser Lee Board Mold

Above you see a 2” x 10” x 10” piece of Kaiser-Lee Board that I carved to create reversed fusing mold. It is ideal to bring out the beauty of  Wissmach Luminescent coated Glass!

Papyrus Paper Design

Here I cut 1/2” wide strips of Papyrus Paper, 10 “ long and glued 3 strips together to make them a bit thicker. Then I wove them together as shown in the pictures. Yes, I made sure that they were not perfect.

Luminescent Plate

The glass I chose is a Wissmach Luminescent 96-14 which I decorated with some thin vitrigraph stringers. Now all I had to do is to place it luminescent side down on the mold set up and fire and fuse it in one firing.

Having fun with Multi Pens

Having fun with Multi Pens

Multi Pens are a form of glass enamel that we have added to our line of products, since they are easy to work with and fire absolutely shiny.

This dragon was painted on very patiently with a fine brush and then fired into the Wissmach luminescent 90-07 Light Grey transparent at only 1410°F (765°C) for 10 minutes.

COMING UP – OUR 2 DAY KILN FORMING WORKSHOP AT D&L IN DENVER COLORADO

During this 2 day workshop I will show you some very versatile ways of kiln forming glass, from working very thin to very thick glass. We will also introduce you to our latest discovery  a technique we named Klendox.

For those of you who are coming to the Las Vegas Glass Craft and Bead Expo, come and see some of the samples we will have at the Wissmach Booth.

Multi Pen Enamel Paint

Multi Pen Enamel Paint

Liquid Enamel Pens that are compatible with any glass and can also be used with ceramic and metal.

These new enamel pens will be a great addition to add to your creative tools. Yes, we have tried all kind of paints and why would we add yet another one? This one fires shiny, does not scratch off and does not need clear capping.
White, Black and Lime Green fire perfect even at lower fusing temperatures. Rose, Purple and Red get darker with higher temperatures.

They are ideal for our textured clear glass.

Fused Glass “Happy Stone” Pendants with a Stainless Steel Wire Finish

Fused Glass “Happy Stone” Pendants with a Stainless Steel Wire Finish

20 Years ago I took my first class in glass fusing with Jaunita (no this is not a typo) Deck at the Art Studio in Cape Coral. One of my friends in class, Lucille S. played with stacking glass – fused it  – cut it apart and fused it again standing on edge. Whenever I see this technique shown online, I remember our beautiful stones we created. Lucille also was an avid wire wrapper and tried to teach me some wire wrapping. But back then the traditional style of wire wrapping was too ornate for my taste.

Now 20 years later – and 20 years older – sorry I meant wiser – I see myself adding more and more wire to my glass. Finally I found a way to use those stones in Jewelry.  Since we can not predict their outcome, I like to call them:

“Happy Stones”

It took me only 50 yards of stainless steel wire of trial and error.

But I think I found a way that holds the stone.

And also adds interest to the piece without taking away from the beauty of the “Happy Stone”.

And yes, I will show the how to technique in any of my classes. Just ask for the

“Happy Stone” technique and wire finish.
